When Tate Collins finds airline pilot Miles Archer passed out in front of her apartment door, it is definitely not love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. But what they do have is an undeniable mutual attraction. He doesn’t want love and she doesn’t have time for a relationship, but their chemistry cannot be ignored. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up, as long as Tate can stick to two rules: Never ask about the past and don’t expect a future. Tate is determined that she can handle it, but when she realises that she can’t, will she be able to say no to her sexy pilot when he lives just next door!

Tate’s plan to move in with her brother, Corbin, whilst she’s studying and until she can find a job leads to much more than she bargained for when she arrives at his apartment to find a (handsome) drunken airline pilot passed out in front of the door. After discovering his name is Miles Archer and he’s a co-worker of her brother’s (who also works as a pilot) Tate reluctantly lets him into to sleep his hangover off and doesn’t plan on having anything more to do with him. No such luck…

It turns out that Miles lives across the hallway and being such a close friend of Corbin’s he seems to be always hanging around. Not that Tate is interested in a guy who could get so wasted that he couldn’t even remember if he slept with her! No way.

Only…there’s something about Miles. He doesn’t give anything away, hides his emotions and is completely mysterious. He’s also hugely attracted to Tate.

It becomes clear that he hasn’t had a girlfriend for six years and seems afraid to get too close to anyone. However the attraction between Tate and Miles is too strong to deny and the inevitable happens. But Miles makes it clear he doesn’t want a ‘relationship’. There are two rules to their ‘arrangement’ which Tate must abide by, firstly never ask about the past and also don’t expect a future. Tate thinks she is ok with the set-up, she can’t deny her desire for Miles, so if sex is all there is to it then that’s fine by her…at least that’s what she tells herself.

However it’s clear that this isn’t true in either of their cases and sooner or later Tate finds herself falling for Miles, and falling hard. She’s certain that he feels the same way about her but he just can’t seem to let himself love anyone and Tate just can’t understand why…

Colleen Hoover is a completely new author to me. I’ve heard great things about her books but for some reason never got round to reading any of her work until I signed up to review Ugly Love…and I’m so glad that I did, because I couldn’t get enough of this novel!
I really liked the sound of the synopsis and the book completely lived up to my expectations. I was immediately drawn in by Miles. Just what was this huge secret controlling his life and making him afraid to love anyone? The hopeless romantic side of me desperately wanted him to get over this hurdle and just accept Tate’s love. However, as the story progresses there’s a huge twist to proceedings and I came round to Miles’ way of thinking. Although it might be distorted, I could understand why he felt the way he did towards the end.

The story is mainly told from Tate’s point of view, but every other chapter is told by Miles, six years before the present day (it’s through this that you learnt what happened to Miles all those years ago). I found this to be a really effective way of writing and I found the story all the more enjoyable (and gripping!) as the past is slowly revealed to you in this way.

I loved the chemistry between Tate and Miles, it was sizzling and they are the perfect couple. I NEEDED them to be together, hence my racing through this book in just two days. I couldn’t bear not knowing what was going to happen between them. Be warned; under no circumstances start this book if you have plans because nothing will get done. You will get completely grabbed in by the story and not be able to focus on anything else until you know the outcome.

There is an excellent array of characters too. You’ve got Tate’s over protective brother, Corbin, Ian, who is Miles’ school friend and now also a pilot and Cap who I absolutely loved. I really liked the way he was involved with the ending too…you’ll see what I mean when you read Ugly Love…

You’ll also find out the meaning behind the title of Ugly Love. There’s quite a poignant story at the heart of this novel and I defy you not to be gripped by it. Ugly Love is an addictive story of heartbreak, love, friendship and trust and although it’s the first of Colleen Hoover’s books that I’ve read, it certainly won’t be the last…

A huge thank you to The Hot Bed team for allowing me to be a part of the Ugly Love Book Review Tour. They are completely fabulous and you can find out more about them here.
