Fleur de Force started making YouTube videos in 2009 out of a passion for everything beauty and fashion related. What began as a fun hobby quickly turned into something much bigger, and she’s spent the past five years seeking out the best products, top tips and easiest ways for us all to look and feel more fabulous. In The Glam Guide she shares all of her secrets and discoveries so whether you’re looking for makeup tips, wardrobe cheats, first-date pointers or healthy lifestyle motivation, this is the book for you.
I have been a subscriber to Fleur’s YouTube channel for over four years now. I adore her style of blogging and she always comes across in her videos as natural, down-to-earth and extremely glamorous at the same time. Her tutorials are easy to follow, her product reviews are spot on and her hauls always have me desperate to hit the shops (plus she has a sausage dog…Enough said.)
Being such a big fan of Fleur’s I was naturally rather excited when I heard that she was bringing a book out. The Glam Guide is Fleur’s guide to make-up, fashion, dealing with bad-hair days, adopting a healthy lifestyle, filming YouTube videos and everything in between.
First things first…this is one of the most aesthetically pleasing books I’ve ever clapped eyes on. It’s beautifully presented and has some gorgeous illustrations and pictures. The lettering on the front is rose gold (I mean come on! What more could you want!?) And the whole lay-out of the book gives it a very classy, grown-up feel.
However, as Fleur advices within the pages of The Glam Guide, not everything is about looks and the content more than lives up to the beautiful design of the pages.
There seems to be an influx of books released by YouTuber’s at the moment (which incidentally is fine by me – I love them!) and Fleur’s seems to have more of a ‘grown-up’ feel to it. The Glam Guide would appeal to teenagers and adults alike. The content is suitable for all; whether you want tips on looking and feeling your best or want advice on how to boost your confidence.
I like the format of the book in that you’ve got your individual sections (Beauty, Hair, Fashion etc) and at the end of each chapter Fleur gives her 10 Quick Tips to the topic that’s just been discussed.
As a lover of all things fashion and beauty myself I must admit that those sections were my favourite. Unlike some beauty books, The Glam Guide is not all obvious hints and tips that you’ve heard a million times before either. I learnt lots of useful new cheats and ideas regarding make-up application and storage, hair styling and shopping in the sale (January sales I am SO ready for you now…Mwahhhaaha!)
Fleur’s tips on self-confidence and motivation also really struck a chord with me. She is one wise, beautiful and very smart lady and I think women of all ages could certainly do no harm by giving this book a read. Fleur talks a lot of sense and whilst re-laying all of her essential tips her natural warmth and humour translate brilliantly from the page.
This is what I could class as a ‘dressing table book’ (coffee table books are SO last year…) This basically means that I will always have this book displayed proudly with a stack of other gorgeous looking books on my dressing table. Not only does it look the part but it’s also easily to hand when I want to style my hair differently or need some tips on applying liquid eye liner…
A huge thank you to publishers Headline for sending me a copy of The Glam Guide via BookBridgr for review. ♥
