The Best of NetGalley

I know that these posts can be deadly for your feedback score, so I once again apologise in advance, but I can’t help it! One of the my favourite things about being a book blogger is having access to the wonderful facility that is NetGalley and as usual, there are some cracking books available to bloggers and reviewers at the moment. Here’s what I have been requesting lately…

Resistance is Futile by Jenny T Colgan

Connie thinks she’s never met anyone quite like Luke Beith before.

She has no idea how right she is.

As a high-ranking mathematician in a male-dominated field – with bright red hair – Connie’s used to being considered a little unusual.

But she’s nowhere near as peculiar as Luke, who is recruited to work alongside her on a top-secret code breaking project.

Just what is this bizarre sequence they’re studying? It isn’t a solution to the global energy crisis. It isn’t a new wavelength to sell microwave ovens. The numbers are trying to tell them something . . . and it seems only Luke knows what.

The truth is out there. Will Connie dare to find it?

I have been obsessing over this book for what feels like forever. Sci Fi is a genre I am not at all familiar with, but thanks to the rather amazing Jenny Colgan (or should I say Jenny T Colgan…) I am ridiculously excited about reading this. The cover is fantastic and every time I see it I want to read it just that little bit more…You can pre-order your copy here (release date: 28th May 2015)

If She Did it by Jessica Treadway

What if you began to suspect your child of an unspeakable crime?

When Dawn introduces her family to her new boyfriend, Rud, they hide their unsettled feelings because they’re glad that Dawn, always an awkward child, seems to have finally blossomed.

Then Dawn’s parents are savagely beaten in their own bed, and though Hanna survives, Rud stands trial for Joe’s murder. Claiming her boyfriend’s innocence, Dawn initially estranges herself from everyone she knows, but when Rud wins an appeal, Dawn returns home saying she wants to support her mother.

Hanna knows that if she could only remember the details of that traumatic night, she could ensure her husband’s murderer remains in jail. But Hanna hadn’t realised that those memories may cause her to question everything she thought she knew about her daughter…

WOW. WOWOWOWOW. This book sounds amazing. I will admit that it’s one I hadn’t come across until I was merrily browsing my way through the NetGalley catalogue, but as soon as I saw it I could not hit that request button fast enough. Once I had calmed down I realised that If She Did It was actually released on the 10th March, so naturally I also headed over to Amazon and I may have ordered a copy (read: I ordered a copy). Either way it sounds like a fantastic story and definitely one to look out for. You can get hold of your copy here.

Game of Scones by Samantha Tonge

A story of icing and flour…and how love doesn’t always go to plan!
Growing up, Pippa Pattinson’s summers were spent in the idyllic Greek island fishing village of Taxos. There she spent many long hazy days determinedly ignoring thoughts of the life her parents had mapped out for her (a dreary-but-secure banking job and obligatory sensible husband!) Instead she daydreamed of running her own tea shop – serving the perfect scones -with mocha-eyed childhood friend Niko by her side…
Arriving back in Taxos for the first time in years, with suave boyfriend Henrik, Pippa barely recognises the tired little town – but is relieved to catch glimpses of the quaint, charming village she’s always loved. Together Niko and Pippa put together a proposal to save Taxos from tourist-tastic ruin, and at the heart of their plan is Pippa’s dream project – The Tastiest Little Tea Shop in Taxos. It’s time for Pippa to leave her London life behind and dust off her scone recipe that’s guaranteed to win over both locals and visitors. And amidst the rolling pins and raisins, it seems romance is blossoming where she’s least expecting it…

This story sounds absolutely delicious and I cannot wait to visit The Tastiest Little Tea Shop in Taxos. Game of Scones sounds like my perfect kind of book and I am a huge fan of Samantha Tonge. I can’t wait to sit in the garden on a sunny spring day with my nose stuck in this beauty (oh, and can we talk about how great the title is too!?) You can pre-order your copy here, it’s released 20th April so not long to wait, either!

It all started six years ago, with a letter from a secret admirer, Mr Writer…but then they suddenly stopped and Ava was heartbroken.

Now the letters have started again and Ava knows it could mean winning back the dating column at work. This time she’s determined to unmask Mr Writer…and find out once and for all if he’s Mr Right or Mr Very Definitely Wrong!

There’s something about Carina…they certainly know how to produce a mighty fine cover and Just The Way You Are is no exception. I’m also especially excited about reading Lynsey’s debut novel after chatting to her through Twitter. Just The Way You Are sounds like the kind of story I love and I think it’s going to appeal to chick-lit fans everywhere…BIG TIME. Click to pre-order your copy, release date 8th May 2015.
