My Top Ten Favourite Holidays
By Bella Osborne
Hi Holly and thank you for having me on your blog. My latest novel is titled A Family Holiday and here are my favourite holiday destinations.
Orlando – if you have children this is a must visit location. Disney and Universal are truly magical and the stunning weather is virtually guaranteed. A chance to make unforgettable family memories and act like a kid again!
Caribbean – it’s hard to pick one island when there are so many and they are all beautiful and welcoming. From the storybook wonder of Atlantis on Paradise Island, Bahamas, to the waterfalls of Jamaica, the history of Antigua and the lofty twin peaks of the Pitons in St Lucia they all have their unique appeal as well as the expected white sand beach, clear blue sea and swaying palms.
Western Canada – The Rockies cannot be underestimated for their vastness and staggering scenery and add to that the bustling city of Vancouver and access to wildlife such as black bears, grizzly bears, eagles and whales it is a must see destination.
Kenya – Continuing the wild animal theme a safari in Kenya is a must for nature lovers. The early starts are a small price to pay to see these magnificent creatures in their natural environment. A hot air balloon ride over the Serengeti is unforgettable as is breakfast in the bush afterwards!
Marrakech – Such a short distance to travel to be a world away. The sights, sounds and smells of the souk are an assault on the senses transporting you to another world.
New York – All that has been said of New York is true! Tick off the tourist sights and then drift into life as a New Yorker with breakfast in an old style diner and a stroll or bike ride through Central Park whilst the city bustles around you.
The West Country – this is a sweeping statement that covers a huge area but the counties of Devon, Cornwall, Dorset and Somerset are, I believe, all equally appealing as holiday destinations. They all offer hidden coves and pretty beaches, afternoon tea and quaint little shops. One of the best places for a traditional English seaside holiday.
Center Parcs – As a family we love Center Parcs. They are all very similar so your experience will be on a par whichever one you visit. A great chance to let the children go wild with a myriad of activities for them to try and hours of free fun in the grandly named Sub Tropical Swimming Paradise. It’s all surrounded by woods and friendly local wildlife – what’s not to love?
Canary Islands – Another generalisation I’m afraid but all the islands are volcanic (or they were many moons ago) so the terrain and topography are all much of a muchness but there are many lovely hotels and it’s only circa 4 hours from the UK. If you fancy sunshine pretty much any time of year this is the place to go. Reliable and trustworthy like an old friend!
Cuba – I know it’s in the Caribbean but I think it deserves a special mention. It has all you would expect of a stunning island location but with the added bonus of Havana. Try to do a two-centre holiday or at least a trip to the island’s capital as it really is a highlight with its old American cars, faded grand buildings, salsa clubs and history.
Wherever you spend your holidays this summer I hope you have a fabulous time.
A Family Holiday is published by HarperImpulse on the 25th August.
‘Heartwarming and funny from an exciting new talent’ – Katie Fforde
She’ll do whatever it takes to keep this family together…
As the nanny to four quirky but loveable children, Charlie French has learnt that if there was ever a cement shortage Weetabix would be a viable substitute and that YouTube videos can go viral in seconds, much to her horror. But, most importantly, she’s learnt that whatever happens you stick together as a family.
When tragedy strikes, Charlie is forced to decide whether it’s time to move on or fight to keep the children she loves. With the distraction of the children’s gorgeous Uncle Felix and the chance of a holiday in stunning Antigua, she’s left wondering if turquoise seas can wash away their present troubles. Is the pull of white sand beaches too tempting to resist or will paradise fail to keep them all together?
A gorgeous summery beach read, perfect for fans of Katie Fforde, Carole Matthews and Jill Mansell.
